Wilfried Bony has completed a move to Manchester City from Swansea for a fee of around 27 million pounds
Manchester City Football Club completed the signing of Wilfried Bony from fellow Premier League side Swansea City in a deal believed to be around 27 million pounds. The Ivorian international joins the Citizens on a four and a half year deal that will keep him at the Etihad till the end of the 2018/2019 season. Bony will line up alongside his fellow Ivory Coast teammate Yaya Toure in the number 14 shirt and already his addition has us City fans dreaming of what could be. Goals have been somewhat hard to come by for City this season, and the reason behind that is obviously the injury that was sustained by Sergio Aguero.
The Argentine international only just returned from injury last week as he made a late cameo appearance in our draw against Everton. Unsurprisingly, the fact that Aguero, who was out for almost five weeks due to a knee injury, is still our leading scorer for the season with 14 goals shows how much we missed him, and also exactly how much we needed to find another stable goalscorer. And there are none more stable than Ivory Coast hitman Wilfried Bony. The 26 year old has scored 20 times, which is also the most number of goals scored in the Premier League in the 2014 calendar year. The name that occupies second place on the list is a certain Segrio Aguero who has 18, while Yaya Toure is in third place with 17 and finally Edin Dzeko takes the number five spot with 14 goals in the year 2014. The simple fact that four of the top five spots on the list of most goals scored in the 2014 calendar year are occupied by City players makes terrific reading for us City fans. The addition of Bony to our ranks was a move that was very desperately needed as our strikers were not being able to do their job very well. Edin Dzeko has had a very disappointing season so far after finding the net on only two occasions, while Stevan Jovetic is not much better off with five goals. Yaya Toure is our second top scorer with only seven goals, half of what Aguero has scored even after missing the last six weeks due to injury. We can only imagine what could have been had we had the Argentine fully fit and available for some of the games where we dropped points. Surely having a lethal finisher amidst our ranks would have turned the draws against Everton and Burnley into victories.
The addition of Bony, who has already scored 9 goals in the League this season give us two in form strikers, although one of them has some way to go before he can get back into the form he was in before he got sidelined. City boss Pellegrini is known to be an admirer of Bony’s and it is no surprise that we went in for the former Swansea forward who has been a sensation since coming to England. The targetman is virtually unplayable on his day and his staggering physique is something that we have lacked while going forward. Heading into the last half of the campaign, every goal and every point is worth a lot and the addition of this towering goal machine to our ranks should give us an added edge in the Premier League title race.
