Manchester City have made a fantastic start to the Barclays Premier League season after racking up four wins from four games

The Barclays Premier League this season has been more topsy-turvy than any other that I can think of. Not too often do we find just one of the usual giants occupying a Champions League place after the first four games of the season. Luckily for us, that one team is our very own Manchester City and it gives me great pleasure to say that we’re the only one of the top teams who are properly going about their business.

While we can still boast a 100% record, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have been able to amass only seven points from a possible 12. Reigning champions, Chelsea find themselves even lower down the table with a shocking four points from four matches while Tottenham are just above the drop zone with a point lesser.

City’s Chilean boss Manuel Pellegrini had a lot to prove after a disappointing summer, but it seems as if his plans are coming along just well

The Barclays Premier League is one long and arduous journey and we are only at the fourth hurdle. A whopping 34 matches are yet to be played and with that point in mind, it would be foolish to take anything for granted at this point of time. The League is not won in September, but then again, to win it in May, you need to begin working from now. So, while we should not assume that the League is ours, what we can do is take great encouragement from the blistering start that we’ve managed to put together thus far.

While each and every single one of our rivals are floundering, here we are sitting pretty at the top of the table with massive leads over each and every single one of them. Having a five-point lead over any of our usual competitors at any point of time in the season is a massive advantage. Maintaining a distance of eight points with Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea however, would have to be nothing less than a miracle. There are no guarantees in this world, and especially so in the world of top class football, but being eight points ahead of the team that pipped you to the title just the last season, has to be a major victory for us.

City signed Belgium attacker Kevin De Bruyne along with Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Otamendi and Fabian Delph over the course of the summer to ensure their success

I also believe, that the international break has come at just the perfect time. This short break from club football has a psychological effect more than anything else. While we Cityzens can stare at the table for two continuous weeks to find ourselves on top of the pile, Chelsea and the other big boys will have to endure two weeks of torture because every time they look at the table, they’ll find themselves nowhere near where they’d like to be.

Our rivals have to wait for two weeks before they can make up for  their mistakes of the past matchday while we will be taking strength from our extremely successful start. Manchester City Football Club needed a massive season to make up for the horrors of the last one and while there’s no guarantee of one yet, we can rest assured that we are at least on the correct track.
