Manchester City Football Club are in the news for all the wrong reasons after a stunning discovery was made about Frank Lampard’s status as a player. All in all, it is most unfortunate that our club should get embroiled in negative publicity especially at this point of time when they are in fact doing very well as far as matters on the football pitch are concerned. The whole affair is pretty complicated to be honest and the plot is only thickening with every passing day. So, if you are still not entirely aware of what exactly the matter is, then read on to know all about it.
The situation, as it stands, is this. Frank Lampard is registered with Manchester City and not MLS side New York City FC. Even more astoundingly, it turns out that Lampard was in fact registered with the Citizens from the month of August last year. This truth obviously proves that the two year deal that he was believed to have penned with New York City was in fact non-existent. Then what exactly did he sign with the American outfit after he was released by Chelsea? That is the question on everyone’s lips right now, and the answer is certainly mindboggling. Our number 18 actually agreed to a pre-contract back last summer that would see him join New York City in January, 2015. The two year deal that was reported by the media back in August was actually supposed to have started from the 1st of this month. Hence, the only solid contract Lampard signed during the summer was with Manchester City. That is only the first step down this very shady path which should have City officials squirming in their seats. The next issue that you need to understand is what went on between Manchester City and Lampard. As is now evident, the former England star signed a contract with us back during the close season. The details of this contract however are still unclear. City are claiming that they signed Lampard on a six month contract that would expire on the 31st of December, 2014, and when the time came, they chose to offer their man another six month contract that will now end on the 30th of June, 2015. This single statement from the club have put them in spot of bother as what they did is in contravention to Premier League Rule T11 which dictates that the shortest contract that can be offered to a player is of 12 months.
Some difficult questions have been posed to City right now and the most disturbing one is this. Are they still telling the truth about the six month deals that they claim Lampard has signed? Or was it actually a one year deal with a “break clause” at the half way point that Lampard was bound to from back in August? The truth is only known by the player himself and the club and it is very unfortunate that the club’s name and reputation has to be dragged through the mud under such circumstances. The whole affair has seriously displease New York City fans and quite rightly so as the US club used Lamapard’s name and the promise that he would join them in January to sell tickets and merchandise. This situations has led to our club, Manchester City getting a bad name on both sides of the Atlantic and all we City fans can do is wonder exactly why the club chose to deal with this situation in such an unethical fashion.
