City should break the bank for sizzling Sterling, especially when you see his nationality

Manchester City have built up a reputation of being big spenders in the transfer markets for a very long time now. Ever since they were purchased by Sheikh Mansour, the club have splashed the cash to put their mark on the world of football. And this transfer window appears to be no different. While City are yet to make any signings in this close season, they are being linked with moves for quite a few talented individuals.

But the single name that is being linked to them the most is that of Raheem Sterling. The Liverpool attacker has just two years left on his current deal with the Reds and the extended impasse that he has held with his current employers about a new deal has alerted other clubs about a possible move for the player.

The 20 year old forward has had two superb seasons in a row now and while the year before the last saw him paired up with Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez upfront to create a terrifying forward line, the last season saw him soldier on alone without too much support. Sterling scored an impressive 11 goals in both his previous two seasons while notching up 10 assists in the last campaign and 12 assists in the one prior to that. Now if you go onto consider that this young man was able to maintain his record even when the entire Liverpool team around him was falling apart, then you will truly understand what a gem he is.

In fact, I think that there is no reason for me to tell you anything more about Sterling after he won the Golden Boy award that is handed to Europe’s most promising young footballer. As far as Manchester City are concerned, this should be one player that we should break the bank for. At just 20 years of age, the youngster has his whole career ahead of him and he will most definitely return any investment that we make for him. Sterling is currently valued at 30 million pounds by transfermarkt.com although it is certain that he will cost a lot more than that.

City are rumoured to be lining up a mammoth offer which is in turn expected to ignite a bidding war between us and some other big players in European football. Real Madrid is another club that Sterling has been linked with but I feel that we can bring him to the Etihad if we don’t waste too much time.

The Liverpool number 31’s nationality is also another reason as to why we should do everything we can to bring him into our club. Manchester City have an appalling shortage of English talent among their ranks. Goalkeepers Joe Hart and Richard Wright are the only two players who are from England and with James Milner now heading to Liverpool and Frank Lampard going back to the States, City are in desperate need to meet the homegrown quota. With these factors in mind, I would definitely give the club the green light to go ahead and make a big money move for Sterling as it would in no way be a waste.
