Raheem Sterling is on the radar for Manchester City who are rumoured to be lining up a third and final bid for the player
Manchester City are showing exactly why they are reputed as one of the biggest spenders in the world of football. Manuel Pellegrini has gone head first into this transfer window, which is officially yet to even begin by launching an audacious bid for Liverpool livewire Raheem Sterling. The 20 year old looks all set to leave the Reds after the player and club struck an impasse in their negotiations for a new deal many months ago. Since then, the situation has looked bleak from the Red perspective as the player’s agent has gone on to declare that his client would not be willing to commit to the Anfield club even if they were to offer 900,000 pounds a week.
With this development, City took it upon themselves to rescue Raheem from his present unsatisfactory workplace, and my god do they mean business. Liverpool were initially, and probably still are, unwilling to sell a star the size of Raheem Sterling. But keeping in mind the status that the once mighty Reds have dropped to over the last few years, we all knew that it was going to be mightily difficult for them to hold on to the player who bagged the Golden Boy award this year.
An opening bid of 25 million pounds up front plus 5 million in add-ons was instantly rejected by Liverpool. This was soon followed up with a second bid that offered Brendan Rodgers boys 35 million pounds up front along with the same 5 million in bonus payments. This offer was once again, and unsurprisingly rejected by Liverpool who value their number 31 at almost 50 million pounds. Whether or not that is a fair price for a 20 year old is the topic of a whole different article in itself, but you have to remember that his nationality will surely add another 10 million pounds to his original market value. In fact, Sterling’s English nationality is one of the primary reasons as to why City are making so much of an effort to sign him.
Pellegrini’s boys are alarmingly short in the home grown quota and they need a stellar summer to make up the number of Englishmen in their squad. So, with this factor also in mind, City are believed to be weighing up a third and possibly final bid for Raheem Sterling. This mammoth offer is rumoured to be another 10 million pound increase on the last one. Hence, the 45 million pounds up front plus 5 million pounds in add-on payments looks to be the offer that will finally get Liverpool to twist. As far as City are concerned, the deal looks to be a great one even at this price. At 20 years old, Sterling has his whole career ahead of him and even at this age, he is racking up double figures in the goals and assists tallys already, so to imagine what he could be doing when he is at his peak, makes for some very pleasant reading.
