Football, like any other art form, is often littered with numerous tales that transcend the limitations of the material world. Once in a while, you come across a story that just could not have been scripted by any mortal being. The story of Frank Lampard and what he did against his former team towards the end of last month is one such example.

The midfielder scored a dramatic late winner against his former side to create an unimaginable story
I was absolutely bewildered when I heard that Chelsea were not going to offer their star man a new contract and was even more bewildered that he actually joined another English team. Bewilderment quickly turned into excitement however as I learned that it was Manchester City who he had signed for. I was pretty confident that even a 36 year old Frank Lampard would still have a lot to offer any team that he would play for and I think that it’s an absolute privilege for us City fans to have a man like him playing for us, even though it is only just for six months. Lampard’s City career has gotten off to blistering start as he quickly notched up four goals and two assists in just six matches in all competitions. The former England star is also our highest scoring midfielder with his four goals. In fact, Sergio Aguero is the only City player to have scored more goals than Lampard this season. These stats are surely enough to get a certain Special One kicking himself, even though he will never really admit it. Now add to the fact that it was Lampard himself who went on to score a late equalizer against his former employers last month, and Mourinho might as well be regretting letting the midfielder go in the first place. Chelsea’s loss is our gain and there are no signs to suggest that the profits of having Frank Lampard in our team will dry up any time soon.
Next up for Manchester City and Frank Lampard is Tottenham Hotspur. Our number 18 has some great memories of playing against Chelsea’s bitter rivals as he has scored no less than 9 goals in 12 appearances against them. In fact, that’s just three goals shy of his record of 12 goals scored against Bolton Wanderers and Aston Villa, his favourite opponents. The chances of Lampard starting the game alongside Fernando in the centre of midfield is pretty high as Yaya Toure is doubtful to start against Spurs as he arrived late on Friday after overseeing his international commitments while Fernandinho is also out with a hamstring injury. All in all, the stage does seem set for the Chelsea legend to put in another great display against his former team’s perennial rivals. His superb goals tally against Tottenham should have us Citizens tongues wagging in anticipation. I for one, expect the Enlgishman to have a big contribution to the City cause in his six month spell at the Etihad and his amazing performances and goals followed up by a Player of Month award from us City fans gives me just another reason to be excited about the future, which is most definitely Sky Blue.
