Manchester City’s title ambitions are almost back on track after a fantastic win over Newcastle United saw the Citizens get to within five points of league leaders Chelsea. Earlier in the day Jose Mourinho’s men were held to a draw at Stamford Bridge by a resilient Burnley side thereby giving us a wonderful opportunity to claw back the deficit that had built up between us and our rivals. And it gives me great pleasure to sit here and write that claw back the deficit is exactly what we did. If City fans had any worries that they would not be able to capitalize on this fabulous opportunity that Chelsea had offered up to us, then they really shouldn’t have because the game was in the bag from as early on as the 2nd minute of the game.
Newcastle midfielder Vurnon Anita brought down Edin Dzeko inside the box after just 28 seconds and referee Chris Foy rightfully pointed to the spot. City talisman Sergio Aguero stepped up to the plate and calmly converted the spot kick to give the home side a one nil lead after just two minutes. Frenchman Samir Nasri then doubled our lead in the 12th minute of the match after a brilliant assist from Edin Dzeko who was undoubtedly the best player on the pitch. The Bosnian forward then got the ultimate reward after getting a goal for himself in the 21st minute to give the Citizens a commanding 3-0 nil even before the first quarter of the game was over. The goal was a brilliant one for every football fan to watch, regardless of whichever team they support thanks to a magnificent lofted through ball over the top of the Newcastle defence that was subtly brought down by Dzeko before he slotted it into the back of the net past a hapless Tim Krul. The second half saw much of the same as two quick fire David Silva goals soon after the restart made it 5-0 for Pellegrini’s men. The Spaniard had a fine game and it was no surprise that he found himself on the scoresheet on this kind of form. Silva has now scored nine goals in the Premier League this season, his best tally so far, and with more than three months left to go in the season, we may very well see him take his tally higher.

The City players rush to celebrate with Edin Dzeko after he put City 3-0 up in the 21st minute of the game
Overall, the events of last night was exactly what I was referring to in my last article on this site where I said that the title race is not over because Chelsea would definitely slip up and give us enough opportunities to get back on level terms with them. Who would have thought that Burnley, no disrespect to them, could have held the best team in the land in their own backyard. At this point of time all we have to do is keep on playing the best we can and win as many games as possible without worrying about what Chelsea are doing, because it ain’t over, till it’s over.
