Football, like any other sport, is not always fair. Every now and then you will come across teams who did not get the result that their performance deserved. That, was absolutely not the case with City however as they got exactly what they deserved from last night’s game against Burnley at Turf Moor. Nothing. The kind of performance that our boys put in against Sean Dyche’s men gave me a harrowing reminder of the Manchester City of old. And the truth is that it was downright painful to endure the game for the whole 90 minutes.
All I could wonder during the game was exactly how it was possible for almost the same set of players to win the Premier League just the last season. I am seriously struggling to recollect another City performance this season that was as bad as this one. And it’s not like we got totally outclassed by one of our title rivals or by a top tier European team. We got totally outclassed by a team that is in the relegation zone with just 10 games left to go. I mean absolutely no disrespect to Burnley F.C., but the truth is that not a single City fan can accept losing to a team that is 17th in the Premier League, no matter what it’s name is. I cannot think of even one City player who had a good game yesterday. David Silva had his worst game in a Man City shirt while our skipper Vincent Kompany may very well be blamed for the goal that we conceded. Honestly though, I wouldn’t take anything away from the goal because it was a simply stunning strike by George Boyd who made some sweet contact with ball. That ball was heading in the back of the net the moment it left Boyd’s foot and there was absolutely nothing Joe Hart could do about it. Kompany however could have done a bit better with his header out after considering the fact that he has been playing football at the highest level for many years now. At this point of time though, there is nothing we can do but silently endure the mess that we find ourselves in. Any chances we had of winning the league were washed down the drain a couple of weeks ago, but the latest development in our season sees second place a major doubt as well. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if we surrendered second spot to a very in form Arsenal side and were left fighting it out with Liverpool and United for the 3rd and 4th places.

It’s funny how things work in top tier football, just the last month we were within touching distance of the leaders and now we’re here discussing the possibility of us even finishing in the top two. Well, it’s most disappointing the manner in which our title bid insipidly fizzled out and personally, I feel that our season is over. The Champions League is the only thing that we have to play for and our hopes of winning that are hanging on by a thread as well. An upset against Barca is obviously not on the cards so there is a fair chance that our season will be completely over by Thursday morning, till then however, all we Citizens can do is hope against hope that I am proven wrong.
