My word has anyone recovered from that game last night? Truly unbelievable stuff at times, I went through every type of emotion I think. The game was just end to end with some brilliant attacking football and some very poor defending from both teams. You could tell that at the start too as they showed their intentions right from the off and we certainly did not hold back ourselves as we went at them too.
The result and scoreline last night comes as an even more of a shock considering neither us or Championship side Huddersfield could score against each other at the weekend in the FA Cup. Yet we get eight goals last night? The neutrals out there watching it must have absolutely loved it.
It was attacking football from the off, but the tackles were going in as well as Glik was booked early doors. The first 10 minutes in fact was mainly us though, but very quickly they broke and their young striker Mbappe should have scored. More chances then came, but the best fell to Aguero on 23rd minutes from a ball from Sterling after great build up work down the right from Fernandinho and De Bruyne. Had Sergio been fully match sharp he’d of buried it.
Moment later though we were one up after good work down the left, this time from Silva who cut a ball across the goal to find Sterling, who looked offside but wasn’t, and he tapped it in from close range. It didn’t take long for them to get level though, Willy with a wonka of a pass from the back that Monaco was back easily and within seconds of that a brilliant whipped ball back in from the right found Falcao, who headed into the back of the net.
Aguero then had a penalty shout as we tried to get straight back in front, he was definitely caught but for me he was already falling as Subasic clattered into his legs. You might not agree but no penalty for me. As half-time approached it looked like we’d only have the two goals but up stepped Mbappe and this time he did not miss as he smashed the ball past Caballero.
Into the second half, Aguero got one back but then Falcao got his second and Monaco’s third as he bullied John Stones off the ball, cut inside and as Caballero came off his line, a truly unbelievable chip from the ex-Man Utd man had found the back of the net.
Was the game over? Of course not, although some might have thought it was, but not us. As we then smashed in three more goals in the last twenty minutes as Monaco’s young team crumbled. Goals from Agüero, Stones and then Sané punished Monaco even more after they missed a penalty. More of this in three weeks? I hope not, I just want us to get through now so will happily take a 0-0.
