The Premier League title is far from lost because it ain’t over till it’s over, especially if you’re a City fan

Comebacks are something that we are getting used to here on the blue side of Manchester. The manner in which we won the title in the 2011-2012 season was truly unbelievable and I am sure that it will be safe to say that not too many of my fellow Citizens actually believed that we could do it as we went two goals down against a struggling QPR side on the final day of the season. The way in which we clinched the Premier League title once again last season was equally fascinating after we were trailing Liverpool by quite a few points up until the penultimate matchday of the season. If following football has taught me anything, then it is this, it ain’t over till it’s over.

There are still 13 games left in this edition of the Premier League and while we may not be in the position that we would have wanted to be in at the start of the season, what we need to keep in mind is that the title is still within reach. 13 games is a long time and a lot can happen over this time period. Who would have thought that the all conquering machine that was the Liverpool team of last year would slip up so badly in the last three games of the season especially after they went on that unbelievable run of 11 straight league wins. Similarly, even the most ardent City fans would have stared at the possibility of defeat after being eight points off the pace of a Sir Alex Ferguson lead Manchester United with just six games left to go in the 2011-2012 season. The Chelsea team of this year is definitely good and it will not be possible to draw a comparison between them  and last year’s Liverpool or the United squad from three years ago, but what we  Citizens need to keep in mind is that worrying about our opponents will get us nowhere. Something similar was said by our very own Pablo Zabaleta who said, “We are Manchester City and we never give up, simple as that. We have had that situation before, when we won the league in 2012. We were eight points behind United.”

That is exactly the kind of mentality that we fans need to hold on to at this point of time. City are currently enjoying a ten day break from competitive action as their next game, which is a home assignment against Newcastle is still seven days from now, and this break should definitely do our boys a world of good. What was even more important was that we headed into this break with a good bit of form, and I am so glad to say that we did manage to do it after notching up a crucial 4-1 victory over Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium. City skipper Vincent Kompany commented on the much needed victory by saying, “It is a good feeling. It is a massive win, a good result and it gives us a lot of confidence now with 10 days break.” Confidence and self belief is all that we need to worry about right now as I am sure that Chelsea will give us plenty of opportunities to catch up on them, and what we need to make sure is that we stay in touching distance till that opportunity arises, and when it does, we will surely pounce on it.
