The City management are already identifying targets that can bolster their squad for the next season
Manchester City had an acceptable season to say the least as they finished second in the Barclays Premier League behind Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea. For the most part of the season Manuel Pellegrini’s boys were in the hunt for a second Premier League title in a row but a spell of poor results towards February and March saw them fall off the pace of the leaders. While second place in a league as competitive as England’s top division is surely not a disappointing finish, the kind of ambition that City have shown since their recent change of fortunes makes us naturally dream for more.
With the dust yet to settle on the last season, Manchester City are believed to be already on the hunt for their next big stars. A lot of names are being touted with a move to the Etihad but most of it will surely just be futile rumours that will ultimately lead to nothing. Despite knowing this, it does not make us fans any less restless as we keep on hearing names such as Jack Wilshere, Jack Grealish and Paul Pogba all being linked to move to our club. As I said, there are no guarantees that even one of these lads will end up in the blue half of Manchester so we should not get too ahead of ourselves at the moment.
With this disclaimer in mind, let’s head forth and ponder into some of the transfer deals that could send out a warning signal to our rivals. Jack Wilshere has found his name linked with a move to the Etihad for a long time now but a move has never materialized. Arsenal boss Wenger was asked about this matter recently and the Frenchman has mentioned that he has no intention of selling their bright spark anytime soon.
Personally, I would not really hope for this transfer to work out as I feel that Wilshere is very overrated. Plus, his nationality will surely drive up his asking price. Jack Grealish is another player who has been linked to us. The young Villain is surely an up and coming talent but once again I do not feel that there is any need for him at our club.
The last name that I will pick at is Paul Pogba and for once, this is one guy who I would actually like to see at our club. Unlike Wilshere and Grealish, Pogba is a powerful box to box midfielder who puts in a hard tackle and also manages to find the back of the net. He is one of those individuals who cannot be classified as an attacking midfielder nor a holding midfielder.
The former United man is one of the best examples of a midfield powerhouse. With 10 goals and 10 assists for Juventus this season, Pogba is arguably the next Steven Gerrard or Frank Lampard and City would do well to bring him into our club. Standing on the cusp of the summer transfer window I can say that once again, this window is going to be an exciting one for our club and that we can surely expect at least a couple of world class signings.
